Volunteers Needed!

BPA is a student organization for students interested in the field of business.  Approximately 60 volunteers are needed to help choose those students that will represent our region at the State level in March 2022.  This event could not take place without your volunteer efforts.

Our Regional Leadership Conference will be January 12-13, 2023 at South Texas College Mid-Valley Campus in Weslaco, TX. 

 For events that require projects to be graded prior to competition, student will submit their projects online and judges will grade the submissions prior to competition. All In-person presentations will be held on January 13, 2023.

Judges Orientation

A brief orientation will be provided on Saturday, January 13, 2023 at 8:00. 

 

This year we will be using a new judging software and encourage all the judges to BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). If you prefer to manually grade the student presentations, we will also provide traditional scoring sheets.

FINANCE
Financial Analyst Team

Description:  

The teams were given reports from a business case study prior to the competition. They will use their analytical and problem-solving skills to make decisions and recommendations using financial reports, both internal and external.  These recommendations will be presented to the judges.

Economic Research Individual​
​

Description:

One economic research topic is selected by the National Business Professionals of America and provided at the beginning of the school year. The student will conduct research on the topic and present findings in a research paper, an oral presentation, and respond to questions from a panel of judges.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Administrative Support Research Project​
​

Description:  

One administrative support topic is selected by National Business Professionals of America and provided at the beginning of the school year. The student will conduct research on the topic and present findings in a research paper, an oral presentation, and respond to questions from a panel of judges.

Network Design Team
​

Description:  

The team will analyze existing and planned business environments and develop a strategy for the implementation of a network infrastructure that addresses the need of the defined business environment. The team will present their network infrastructure to the judges.

​

DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS & DESIGN

Graphic Design Promotion​
​

Description:  

The student will develop a theme, illustrate the theme in a logo design, then utilize the logo in a flyer to promote the 2021 BPA National Leadership Conference to be held in Orlando, FL. 

​

Computer Modeling​
​

Description:  

Given a scenario or prompt, Computer Modeling will research the topic, create a profile, concept design(s), prototype(s), and final model and/or scene based upon the assigned topic provided. For example, a new Pixar© type character made of metal (refer to background information supplied about character); an opening scene to support a new sci-fi movie; an office chair designed for the year 2050; an environment for a Mars colony in the year 2075, etc.

Web Site Design Team​
​

Description:  

The team of students will work together to create a web site based on an assigned topic and present it to the panel of judges.

Digital Media Production
​

Description:

The student will create a one to two minute digital media production based upon an assigned topic and present it to a panel of judges.

Video Production Team
​

Description:

The students will create a three to five minute video production based upon an assigned topic and present it to a panel of judges.

Computer Animation Team​
​

Description:

A team will create a 3-D visualization animation (not to exceed two minutes) based upon an assigned topic and present it to a panel of judges.

Broadcast News Production Team​
​

Description:  

A team will create a three to five minute news broadcast with at least two different segments (news stories). The team will also create a 15-20 second sound bite/intro for the broadcast.

MANAGEMENT, MARKETING & DESIGN

Global Marketing Team​
​

Description:  

The team will develop a plan that details pricing strategies and promotional plans for a business proposal that will be presented to a panel of judges.

Small Business Management Team
​

Description:  

The team will use strategic planning and problem-solving skills to provide solutions to the business case provided. The team will deliver their conclusions to the panel of judges.

Advanced Interview Skills​
​

Description:  

The student will demonstrate advanced proficiency in job search and interview situations as they present themselves to the panel of judges for a job interview.

Human Resource Management​
​

Description:  

The contestant will be given a topic and 30 minutes to develop a presentation for a panel of judges that demonstrates understanding and interpretation of personnel policies and knowledge of human resource management.

Parliamentary Procedures Team​
​

Description:  

After taking an objective test, the team will demonstrate the use of correct parliamentary procedure through a chairman’s ability to conduct a business meeting in a democratic manner that allows the members of the team to effectively participate. The team’s knowledge of parliamentary procedure will be examined through presentation and oral questions by a panel of Parliamentarians.

Entreprenuership
​

Description:

The student will develop an operating plan and organizational structure to initiate a small business. Competitors are to assume they are presenting their business plan to potential investors at a bank with the objective of securing financing for their business venture.

Interview Skills
​

Description:

The student will demonstrate proficiency in job search and interview situations as they present themselves to the panel of judges for a job interview.

​

Extemporaneous Speech​
​

Description:

The student will demonstrate communication skills in arranging, organizing, and effectively presenting information orally to a panel of judges without prior knowledge of the topic.

Prepared Speech
​

Description:

The student will demonstrate communication skills in research, organization and delivery, as they present an informative speech to the panel of judges.

Presentation Management Individual
​

Description:

The student will demonstrate the use of current desktop technologies and software to prepare and deliver an effective multimedia presentation to the judges based on a specific topic.
